Tristan "T-man" Mahler's First Tom (Spring 08): South of Palmyra, T-man and his dad, Shawn, "of course, used the used the tried-and-true Dick Turpin box call." They skulked and eventually out smarted this Tom after chasing him through the woods for nearly 90 minutes. The two intercepted his trail and struck the box call one last time to get his head up above very tall grass. The shot was made from about 35 yards and the Tom dropped after the first shot. Notice the missing tail feather? T-Man nicknamed him "Gap."

Zach Mahler's First Tom (Spring 08): South of Palmyra, Zach and his dad, Shawn, used a mouth call and Dick Turpin box call to call the Tom within 10 yards of their ground blind. Zach is a talented trap shooter, however, the 3-inch turkey load had him a little nervous on the anticipated kick of the gun. He squeezed off the first shot and was over the head of the turkey, who took off on a fast retreat. Zach reloaded and dropped this bird on a dead run at 40 yards. Kolton Davis's First Turkey (Nov. '07): His new motto: "One Shot, One Turkey." Kolton's new motto for his dad, Ronnie: "Three Shots, Two Turkeys." You do the math. (Read letter from Ronnie) Wayne Trimm , NBEF Board Member and artist, with a nice Tom that was lured in with a Turpin Personalized Box Call. Zoe Caywood, owner of War Eagle Mills, Arkansas, with a really nice gobbler. All of Zoe's turkey hunting is done with a 12 ga. flintlock. This gun was custom made for her by her husband Charlie. |
